clinical features of rabies

Incubation period of 1-2 months after infection/bite.

Prodromal phase (2-10 days long)
- marked by pain and paraesthesia in the area of the bite [yeah my eyes are burning] gastrointestinal and upper respiratory symptoms, irritability, apprehension, and a sense of impending death, hydrophobia.

Excitation phase (2-7 days long)
- hyperventilation, hyperactivity, disorientation, and even seizures

Paralytic phase
- lethargic and early paralysis, particularly in those areas innervated by the cranial nerves and in the somatic muscles, bladder and bowels. gradual involvement of cardiac muscles and paralysis of respiratory muscles lead to death.
